![]() Two years have passed since the mild-mannered Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) walked away from his longtime love Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and decided to take the road to responsibility as Spider-Man. Peter must face new challenges as he struggles with "the gift and the curse" of his powers while balancing his dual identities as the elusive superhero Spider-Man and life as a college student. She has embarked on an acting career and has a new man in her life. Peter's relationship with his best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco) has been overshadowed by Harry's growing vendetta against Spider-Man, whom he holds responsible for his father's death. The relationships Peter holds most dear are now in danger of unraveling as he clashes with the powerful, multi-tentacled villain Doctor Octopus aka "Doc Ock" (Alfred Molina). | MiTV to launch in December |
| 06.10.04 (10:49 pm) [edit] |
|
:arrow: Malaysia’s upcoming second pay television network, MiTV Corporation, will be launched in the Klang Valley by year-end offering at least 50 channels at a flat rate, says its chief executive officer Datuk Rosman Ridzwan. The company has spent close to RM100 million to develop the multi-channel network using a lower cost homegrown technology known as “Internet Protocol over Ultra High Frequency (IP-O-UHF)”. “Our expected launch will be sometime by the end of December 2004, with at least 50 pay TV channels and some basic interactive services,” Rosman said at a press conference On June 4 in Kuala Lumpur. He said MiTV intended to provide “a very broad spectrum of international channels and comprehensive vernacular packages that will address the tastes of all Malaysians for entertainment, education, news and current affairs”. These channels would be mostly “new properties, yet unseen in Malaysia”, Rosman said. “Our hope is that these channels will happily co-exist and complement the existing channels available through both free-to-air and pay TV today in Malaysia,” he added. When asked about its subscription fee, MiTV chief operating officer Jonathan Chan said the company was still finalising the matter. “We intend to charge flat rate to begin with, which is value for money and encompasses all channels,” he said. Asked whether it would be cheaper than Astro’s subscription fee, Chan said: “Probably.” MiTV would be able to offer “better value” for subscribers as its roll-out cost was lower than those of cable or satellite networks, he added. On its technology platform, Rosman said IP-O-UHF was an amalgamation of internet protocol standards and Digital Video Broadcasting Standards developed by the company itself. “Television broadcasting utilising IP-O-UHF or what we have termed as IPTV-O-UHF, is in our opinion, the most efficient and cost effective means of providing pay television to the Malaysian mass market,” he said. Until now, MiTV has only invested close to RM100 million compared with the investment of more than RM1.5 billion to launch a satellite as had been done by Astro, which is currently the sole pay TV network in Malaysia. Chan said the company would break-even operationally with 180,000 subscribers. He said the target was “not difficult” as there were already 1.1 million TV-viewing households in Kuala Lumpur alone. Currently, Astro has 1.4 million subscribers out of the total 5.5 million TV-viewing households in Malaysia. “There’s still a lot of room to grow,” Chan said. He also said MiTV could break-even faster than others and it intended to list on the Mesdaq Market "as soon as possible”. Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, who is also the company’s chairman, owns an over 40% stake in MiTV while Rosman and his management team hold another 40%. The remaining stakes are held by other parties. To access MiTV, subscribers would need a television or personal computer (PC), an MiTV IP-enabled set top box or an IP-UHF universal serial bus receiver for PCs, a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) or ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) connection to any internet service provider and an indoor UHF antenna. MiTV will set up 20 transmission towers in Peninsular Malaysia and is scouting for locations in East Malaysia to beam the channels there. :idea: |
| MiTV: Malaysia's Second Pay-TV Will Be Interactive |
| 06.10.04 (10:41 pm) [edit] |
|
June 04, 2004 20:52 PM KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- MiTV, Malaysia's second pay-TV, besides offering normal broadcast TV is also interactive, where subscribers can use it for instant messaging, e-mail, web surfing as well as file sharing. MiTV is user-friendly and easy to install, said the Deputy Chairman of MiTV Corporation Datuk Rosman Ridzwan. "MiTV pay-TV service is plug-n-play in nature and thus does not necessitate an installer," he said at a press conference Friday. He said that the subscribers can simply switch on the power and plug-in a traditional UHF antenna (indoor or outdoor) to enjoy value for money pay television. All they need is a television or a personal computer, an MiTV Internet Protocol enabled set top box or an IP-Ultra high frequency (UHF) universal serial bus (USB) receiver for PCs. Besides they also need a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) connection to any Internet Service Provider (ISP) and an indoor UHF antenna. By utilising ultra high frequencies (UHF) to transmit content to the end user, MiTV can substantially increase the capacity of content down-linked to the customer, effectively addressing and resolving the last mile issue. He said by combining internet and transmission technologies and infrastructures, MiTV's business plan has evolved to address the ever-increasing demands and a wider cross-section of the Malaysian Market. Rosman said within the high-speed network infrastructure, any data including images can be delivered to the end user cost effectively. In addition, interactive services allow MiTV's platform to be tailored to suit individual or collective needs. "New and exciting interactive services and applications will be regularly deployed through the MiTV set top box (STB) which is PC over the coming years," he said. Besides, subscribers can also enjoy affordable transaction based services which include their video-on-demand, music, games and e-learning, where its subscriptions are bundled in as part of the basic flat fee subscription. Rosman, who is also the company's Chief Executive Officer said that users can have an easy and enjoyable experience because of homegrown innovations in the graphical user interface (GUI). "Participation with MiTV will be seamless, offering a sense of instant gratification for the viewer," he added. |

Second pay-TV station MiTV poised to take on Astro TAN Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun plans to launch Malaysia’s second pay-TV operator in October, a source familiar with the plans said yesterday, in a move to tap growing consumer demand amid a buoyant economy. The new station will go head-to-head with Astro All Asia Networks Plc, controlled by T. Ananda Krishnan, which currently holds a monopoly over the subscriber-based TV market. “It will offer about 80 channels and charge a monthly flat rate,” the source told Reuters. The new station, to be called MiTV, will be fighting for a piece of the country's TV market that has some 5 million viewers. Astro has just over a quarter of that, or 1.28 million customers, with a customer base that grew 30% in the year to the end of January. Tan is betting on delivering MiTV using Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcast technology, which will drastically reduce costs, the source said. Terrestrial digital technology, which has been used successfully in Britain and works through existing aerials, costs about 1/15th as much as satellite technology. Tan took over privately-held Grafimatix Sdn Bhd, which holds a pay-TV licence, for some RM26mil and he has invested close to RM100mil to develop the station, the source said. The station has plans for an initial public offering in about 2 years. Astro took 7 years before selling its shares to the public in the country’s biggest IPO last year, which raised some RM2bil. – Reuters
:arrow: MiTV: Malaysian-Israeli tie-up in technology? Was there a technology tie-up between MiTV - the touted second Pay-TV operator bankrolled by tycoon Vincent Tan - and an Israeli broadcast solutions company? Information unearthed by a little bird revealed that MiTV Malaysia was credited as a planned beta site for Runcom Technologies Ltd, an Israeli company specialising in Digital Video Broadcast for Return Channel Terrestrial (DVB-RCT), or what is commonly called Interactive DTTV. Runcom made the announcement of its planned beta site at MiTV, alongside Singapore's MediaCorp, in a presentation paper delivered at a DVB-RCT seminar in Orvieto, Italy in February last year. According to information obtained from the Internet, Runcom is a technology company headquartered at Rishon Lezion, near Tel Aviv. It was founded in 1997 by Dr Zion Hadad, who was described as an engineer with extensive experience in the development of military and commercial communication systems. He also specialises in the fields of Spread Spectrum (SS), Frequency Hopping (FH), Direct Spread (DS), CDMA, and ECC Adaptive Array Technologies projects. Runcom claimed that its proprietary Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) technology has been endorsed by international bodies that benchmark industry standards, such as the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) committee, ETSI-BRAN and IEEE 802.16.a. It also claimed that OFDMA has become the basic infrastructure for the DVB-RCT/ETSI broadcasting standard and is the preferred technology driving the BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) service provision market. In addition, Runcom claimed its technology has been considered as the leading technology for the upcoming 4G cellular infrastructure. You can download Runcom's claims on the planned beta site at MiTV Malaysia at this URL (see Pages 4 and 22). me in Juno Corporation : juno8888@juno.com 圣龙集& #22242;
